Dinner is a good time for guys like me, who sit in their rooms, glued to their comp screens, doing absolutely nothing and I'm not demenaning anybody who does anything, productive or otherwise, with his comp, even download movies... I do nothing... So it's only meals when i chat with friends, who live i99n rooms next to me and they form a pretty interesting bunch of neighbours too...
During my walk back to hostel from mess with one of 'em, who by the way, claims that he'll have a bike within 15 days, this topic popped up... Is 'Hindu' crap??? No denying that.. It is crap..We both agree, reasons were different though... My reason: Bangalore univ paper leaked last yr and they didn't even report...His reason: It does not have a 'page 3'...We then started stopping acquintances on the road, taking their opinions on the newspaper...Not surprisingly, everybody agreed, well, almost everybody, except Chennai residents... They claimed Hindu was 'the' newspaper...
I put forth the aforementioned argument... They say, "Fair enough. It carries local news".. My 'motormouth' friend takes over... " That makes it a local newspaper" ... We nod... He quips, " then why the hell is it the media partner for Shaastra and Saarang every year?"
Interesting... any answer, reason or even an argument???

Hindu is perhaps the only newspaper that has less crap than most other papers. (has no page 3 for instance) :P. the articles they publish are too good.
having said that, i will agree that it is perhaps not as perfect as a few other papers are... but who cares? Hindu gives more than news.
I may be a non tam who loves 'The Hindu.' Perhaps the only news paper with international recognition. If I, for a moment assert ur statement that 'The Hindu' is crappy, well, it should lead to a greater conclusion that the media is crappy. And, dare not speak on media, ur life is in trouble :)
it was relief to read ur blog dude...really....i cud come wid a 101 reasons for y the hindu is crappy...which r not jus the external ones tht appear to ppl who read it....n i dont mean to promote or advocate my paper at the cost of journalism itself...but flaws cant be forgiven...if i really begin..this topic is endless...the very fact tht the hindu is the only actually 'read' paper in town says it all...i fail to recognize them as a paper...they r jus an extension of a PR agency workin for every damn org in the city(including IIT)...n then ppl wonder y it sells....another reason is....where is the choice...while most other metros boast of atleast 5-6 good papers....2-3 of which run wid killer competition wid the others....thts not the case here...n once u get into the habit of seein wateva crap u write gettin published n knowin tht ppl wil buy it neways...a majority at tht...there is no scope for improvement...the 1st sign for healthy journalism is competin for readership...if a paper doesnt need/bother to do tht...its a shame..to the city its ppl n the paper itself....the list of instances where they havent covered imp things is endless...so is the list of orgs they have 'cordial' relations wid...n yet ironically...they r the only paper in the country to have a readers editor...wat a fuckin farse...n ppl actually fall for it...i guess i shud stop here...the post hit me at the right place...i can go on n on...but a comment aint exactly the place..:P

It is indeed a crap, non sense. Supports China on every front - didnt even report the claim of Chinese foreign minister on Arunachal Pradesh. Supports Chinese acquisition on Tibet and goes on personal abuse on the Dalai Lama.
supports Karunanidhi and his family to the greatest extent possible. Supports the hooliganism of DMK. Highly suppresses the news against communists and China and Karunanidhi.
Opposes India's nuclear program in 1996, and now supports Iran's right to go with nuclear program.
and the list is too big. I dont find words to express my anguish.
it is the most biased newspaper of India. Having no page 3 doesnt mean a newspaper is good.
I believe, TOI and HT has ruined Indians culturally and this shitty The Hindu is ruining us intellectually.
